    I was drawn to the Giesen & Forsthoff Black Timor 5/8 Razor, as it is, I believe, one step above the beginners' blade.

    Reading and also learning from a number of tutorials before using (technique, ancillary items, etc,) I noticed that the blade was not as sharp as I had expected (Blade's data sheet explains that the blade is "Shaver ready sharpened").

    Luckily, I have also purchased a strop and the other necessary items, in order to see if the blade will shave. Which I will work on (yes, I have also watched a number of tutorials/tips on this).

    I am impressed by this item, as well as understanding that there may be some hurdles - before I get it right. Which is the reason for my review...

    Practice makes perfect. :-)

    I like Giesen & Forsthoff razors – they last really well and are generally good quality and this is no exception. The Black Timor 5/8 works brilliantly and looks like a classic barber shop razor which I really enjoy. The gold logo on the blade is a great touch too and makes it stand out a little more.

    I went with this Black Timor cut throat razor as it looks mean with the black carbon blade and black handle. Really stands out and sits nicely on my sink shelf. I feel like a boss when using it and the blade was sharp out of the box so it didn’t need any extra work before the first use.
